1. brightness & contrast
duplicate base > set to screen at 50% - 100%, depending on your base [*i set mine to 60%]
duplicate base again > drag it to the top of all layers > set it to luminosity at 70%
~ this will even out the contrast and add a pretty luminance
2. color fill layers
layer > new > layer > set to soft light and fill with the color #cca5a5 at 100% opacity
layer > new > layer > set to exclusion and fill with the color #121700 at 100% opacity
~ adds a pink & blue tint which gives the image a vintage look
3. selective coloring
layer > new adjustment layer > selective coloring at 100% opacity
red: 100, 0, 100, 42
yellow: -100, 0, 100
cyan: 100, 0, -100, 100
blue: 100, 0, -100, 100
white: -100, -28, -100
black: 0, 0, 0, 100
~ darkens your image and adds more yellow
4. more selective coloring
layer > new adjustment layer > selective coloring at 100% opacity
red: -100, 37, 2
yellow: 4, 4, 17, -10
cyan: 0, 0, 0, -100
blue: 0, 0, 0, -100
neutrals: 10
blacks: 100, 0, 0, 100
~ adds reds and lightens your blues
5. color balancing
layer > new adjustment layer > color balance at 100% opacity
midtones: -20, -6, 18
shadows: -17, -17, -12
highlights: -19, 4, 25
~ balances yellows and gives whites a blue tint
6. even-ing it out
layer > new > layer > set to exclusion and fill with the color #170e00 at 100% opacity
layer > new > layer > set to luminosity and fill with the color #02aeb4 at 20% opacity
layer > new > layer > set to darken and fill with the color #b6b59e at 10% opacity
duplicate base > drag to the top of all layers > set to soft light at 80% opacity
~ gives more saturation and darkens the image just a tad to even it out
7. finishing touches
layer > new adjustment layer > selective color at 100% opacity
red: -25
yellow: -19, 0, -38
neutrals: 0, 0, -12
~ removes excess yellow and tones up the reds a notch
1. curves layer (layer > new adjustment layer > curves)
RGB: input: 100 output: 143
this layer is meant to lighten the picture slightly, don't worry if it's still too dark/dull.
2. another curves layer.
RGB: input: 119 output: 126
red: input: 140 output: 150
green: input: 132 output: 130
blue: input: 122 output: 130
this layer is to add a little bit of color to the picture, as there wasn't much color in it before.
3. selective color layer (layer > new adjustment layer > selective color)
reds: -36, +6, +4, -5
yellows: +10, -4, -15, 0
whites: +45, -21, +17, 0
neutrals: +1, 0, 0, 0
this layer gave some parts of my image a very slight green tone, but it's mostly to increase the red tones.
4. another curves layer (last one, unless you're going for the second result.)
RGB: input: 170 output: 190
this lightens the picture; you may not need this layer. my image was dark, so it was needed. you can always play with the opactiy of the layer too.
5. channel mixer layer (layer > new adjustment layer > channel mixer)
red: +128, -40, +5
green: +6, +88, 0
blue: -55, +55, +90 constant: +8
this add most of the final color, as the image is now bluer like it is in the first result.
6. color fill layer (layer > new fill layer > solid color)
#D5D5D5, color burn 100%
this layer will add some contrast to the picture.
***IF YOU'RE JUST DOING THE COLOR PART, STOP HERE***
7. gradient map layer.
pick the one that is going from black to white.
this will turn your picture black and white.
8. levels layer. (layer > new adjustment layer > levels)
RGB: 0, 0.88, 255
this adds some contrast.
9. another curves layer (last one)
RGB: input: 171 output: 185
1. Curves layer. (layer >> new adjustment layer >> curves) You might not need this layer if your picture is light enough, since it's like a screen layer.
RGB: 142, 172
2. Selective Color layer. (layer >> new adjustment layer >> selective color) If this layer makes your picture too red, play with the opacity of it.
Reds: -100, +29, +52, 56
Neutrals: +23, +3, -15, 0
Blacks: +33, 0, 0, -11
3. Channel Mixer layer. (layer >> new adjustment layer >> channel mixer) This adds some blue to the picture since the last layer added a lot of red.
Red: +128, -40, 0
Blue: -55, +60, +100
4. Curves layer. Lightens the picture a bit more.
RGB: 106, 130
5. Duplicate layer, drag to the top of layers and set it soft light 30-100% opacity. I just think this makes it look better in the end. ;)
